Caramel Chocolate Crunch Bars – Rich, Buttery Layers with Gooey Caramel and Crunchy Chocolate
Caramel Chocolate Crunch Bars are the ultimate layered dessert for anyone who loves the irresistible combination of buttery shortbread, silky homemade caramel, rich chocolate, and crunchy toasted nuts. Every bite delivers a perfect contrast of textures, from the crisp cookie base to the smooth caramel center and the satisfying crunch of chocolate and pecans on top. They look elegant enough for special occasions yet are surprisingly easy to make, making them a favorite for holidays, bake sales, family gatherings, or simply treating yourself to something extraordinary.
What makes these bars truly unforgettable is the way each layer complements the next. The buttery shortbread base provides a sturdy foundation with a delicate crumb, while the slow-cooked caramel develops a rich, golden flavor that melts in your mouth. As the warm caramel meets the chocolate, it softens the bottom just enough to hold everything together, creating beautiful layers that are both visually impressive and incredibly delicious. Finished with toasted nuts and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt, these bars offer the perfect balance of sweetness, richness, and crunch.
Whether you’re preparing dessert for a celebration, packaging homemade gifts, or looking for a recipe that’s guaranteed to impress, these Caramel Chocolate Crunch Bars are always a winning choice. They can be made in advance, store beautifully in the refrigerator, and slice into neat squares that are easy to serve. Once you’ve tasted their buttery, chocolatey goodness, they’ll quickly become one of your favorite homemade desserts.
Ingredients:
For the Base
2 cups all-purpose flour.
½ cup brown sugar, packed.
1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed.
¼ teaspoon salt.
For the Caramel Filling
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk.
¾ cup unsalted butter.
½ cup light corn syrup or honey.
1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
For the Topping
200 grams high-quality chocolate, broken into rough squares.
1 cup toasted pecans or walnuts, roughly chopped.
Flaky sea salt (optional).
Instructions:
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.
Step 2
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and salt. Add the cold butter and rub it into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Step 3
Press the mixture firmly into the prepared baking dish, creating an even layer. Use the bottom of a measuring cup or glass to pack it tightly.
Step 4
Bake the base for about 15 minutes or until it becomes lightly golden around the edges. Remove it from the oven and set it aside while preparing the caramel.
Step 5
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, butter, and light corn syrup. Cook over medium heat while whisking continuously.
Step 6
Once the mixture begins to boil, reduce the heat to low and continue whisking for 5 to 7 minutes until the caramel becomes thick, smooth, and deep golden in color.
Step 7
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Immediately pour the hot caramel evenly over the baked base.
