Cabbage and Minced Meat Skillet – A Quick, Hearty One-Pan Family Dinner
Few meals are as comforting and satisfying as a skillet filled with tender cabbage and savory minced meat simmered together in a rich, flavorful sauce. This simple one-pan recipe transforms everyday ingredients into a wholesome meal that’s packed with flavor while keeping both preparation and cleanup to a minimum. It’s hearty enough to satisfy hungry appetites, affordable enough for weekly meal planning, and easy enough for even beginner cooks to master.
The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity. As the minced meat browns, it creates a savory foundation that perfectly complements the natural sweetness of slowly cooked cabbage. Diced tomatoes, garlic, onions, and herbs bring everything together, creating a delicious sauce that coats every bite. The cabbage softens without becoming mushy, absorbing all the rich flavors while adding freshness and texture to the dish.
Whether you’re looking for a budget-friendly family dinner, a healthy low-carb meal, or an easy recipe for busy weeknights, this Cabbage and Minced Meat Skillet is an excellent choice. It’s incredibly versatile, allowing you to customize the seasonings, protein, and vegetables to suit your family’s tastes. Best of all, everything cooks in one pan, making dinner both delicious and effortless.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon olive oil.
1 large onion, chopped.
2 cloves garlic, minced.
1 pound (500 grams) ground beef, turkey, chicken, or lamb.
1 small head cabbage, cored and chopped.
1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes.
1 teaspoon paprika.
½ teaspoon dried thyme or oregano.
½ cup beef or chicken broth.
Salt, to taste.
Black pepper, to taste.
Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish.
Instructions:
Step 1
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium-high heat until shimmering.
Step 2
Add the chopped onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until softened, then stir in the garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
Step 3
Add the ground meat and cook until fully browned, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.
Step 4
Season the meat with paprika, thyme or oregano, salt, and black pepper, stirring well to evenly coat the meat.
Step 5
Pour in the diced tomatoes along with their juices and the broth, then stir while scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
Step 6
Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. It may seem like a lot at first, but it will quickly wilt as it cooks.
